Flea and Tick Treatments Flea and Tick Control

Flea Control That Works!

Whether you're looking for simple flea control for your pets or both flea and tick control treatments combined, our online pet meds merchants offers a number of excellent treatments and products aimed at keeping your cat or dog bug-free. Tick and flea protection products like Advantage, Frontline, Program and Sentinel are household names in families with pets. Because the average pet spends a significant amount of time outdoors, flea and tick infestations can be hard to avoid; but that doesn't mean you can't keep 'em under control.

Flea collars & shampoos vs. medications

Topical treatments like Frontline and Advantage are definitely the best weapons in your pet's pest control arsenal - but they are certainly not your only weapons. If you have any experience with the war on fleas you have probably tried flea collars and shampoo products. While these two items may appear to help with the infestations, they do not work nearly as well as the topical medications available to control flea and tick problems in most dogs and cats. Ultimately, it's a good idea to try a combination of methods, especially in warmer areas where the flea and tick season is unusually long. Fleas do not like cold weather! In fact, a good frost can kill off a nice population of these nasty pests.

The life cycle of the flea - know your enemy!

There are over 2,000 different types of fleas and they all basically share the same life cycle - the following is a very brief description of that life cycle:

  • Egg Stage: Laid by female fleas while on the animal host. They generally fall off the host and hatch after 10 days.
  • Larvae Stage: Wormlike in appearance, they burrow into dark areas such as carpeting, pet bedding, etc. and feed on skin scales or flea droppings.
  • Cocoon Stage: The larvae spin a tiny cocoon where they “morph” into an adult flea.
  • Adult Stage: Immediately upon hatching, the adult looks for a suitable host (your pet!) and the cycle starts all over again!

Flea and tick treatments that work

Now that you know what you're up against - you can fight the flea battle and win! If your environment isn't pest-free, your dogs and cats won't be free of fleas and ticks for long. A good general insecticide spread in the backyard can help guarantee that your pets won't pick up hitchhikers every time they need to go out. If fleas or ticks have invaded the house, there are plenty of household spray products and better still carpet powders available that will clear out the insect population. Once you've nixed the pests, all you need to do to avoid fleas and ticks on your pet is keep a sharp eye out, and use preventative measures to keep them out of your house and your pet's life forever!
