Flea Control Products Flea and Tick Control

How Flea Control Products Work

You need to have flea control products if you have pets. Animals are particularly susceptible to fleas and ticks that nest in their fur. Traditional methods of controlling these pests include using flea dip for large dogs, but you have to make sure that you dip every part of the animal's body into the solution every three weeks. You can also purchase flea and tick collars for both dogs and cats but they have to be used before you see any fleas. Once your pet does have fleas, the collars will not be of any use. So what alternatives do you have?

Flea and tick treatments that work

The modern methods of flea and tick control include three major products called Frontline, Revolution and Advantage. They are effective and work quickly so that even if you have an infestation you won't have to fumigate your whole house. You simply have to treat the pet. The advantages of using one of these products are:

  • Revolution. This product not only eliminates fleas and ticks, but also prevents heartworms. This provides a cheaper alternative to using a different product for heartworms in addition to a treatment for controlling fleas.
  • Frontline. A treatment of this product last for three months at a time when used for dogs and two months when you use it for cats. It is most effective if you use it on a monthly basis. It doesn’t wash off easily so your pet can take frequent swims without having to be retreated.
  • Advantage. You can use this treatment a few hours after you give your pet a bath. It is cheaper than other flea control products and the package has a picture of how you should use it.

In addition to theses products that you apply after a bath, you can also get the Frontline product in a spray but you have make sure you spray all of the animal's body.
